Subway Domer - A Notre Dame Blog

Written by The Subway Domer | 21 February 2012

This glorious tattoo belongs to Subway Domer video contributor, Great Shane.

It's got me thinking... Let's see 'em. If you have a Notre Dame, Irish, Celtic, or even just a tattoo of a set of bagpipes draped over the bloody corpse of a Trojan- send a pic our way. Use the CONTACT tab at the top, and I'll publish all of these works of art at a later date. A showcase, if you will.

Do it.

Welcome to Twittermania! This is the place where you will find the best #NDFB tweets (and just about anything else of the awesome nature) on the @TheSubwayDomer Twitter timeline. There is now a running total, a scoresheet if you will, that is located in the menu bar above, or by following THIS LINK.

It's a great way to hand out the ultimate prize of GLORY, and it will also keep all the guys at HLS on their toes.

This week, the rule of "5" is strangley in effect. I mean... it's only from 5 people, so that's cool... right?

On to the top tweets!

In what was a bizarre turn of events, Davonte Neal never showed up to the announcement press conference. Apparently, Neal and his father Luke are at odds with one another over this decision.

So there's that. Notre Dame has already had to deal with quite possibly it's best recruits [Greenberry] flipping on signing day for Houston of all places, and now ND Nation's best hope for a truly dynamic athlete and slot receiver in this recruiting class has just pulled a HUGE no show for an even filled with all the pomp and circumstance of an elementary school Christmas program- xylophones and all.

I have no issue with a recruit waiting until after signing day to make his decision, unlike some people:

These "reporters" are part of the major problems involved in recruiting and drown in their hypocrisy, and all the while, they think they are walking on water.

With that said, it would be an understatement to say that this whole thing was handled poorly by the Neal family. They have had a lot on their plates these past few weeks, and as far as the actual recruitment of Neal by college go, the family was basically 7 months behind the 8 ball. This is basically June in that timeline. The natural order of things hasn't had room to stretch its legs.

So now, we wait- yet again. Make no mistake, and think Notre Dame won't want Neal after this ordeal. Quite the contrary... I expect the effort to be amped up. Notre Dame truly needs this recruit, and his now obvious inclination towards Arizona makes this entire situation quite funny- for everyone else but Arizona and Notre Dame fans.

We wait...

With the recent addition of Bob Elliott to the Notre Dame coaching staff, Brian Kelly continued the trend of hiring assistants with ties to the University of Iowa and legendary coach Hayden Fry. Elliott will coach safeties and joins Bob Diaco, Kerry Cooks, and Paul Longo as the fourth member of Brian Kelly's staff who either coached or played under Fry.

I know what you're thinking. . . . Just who the hell is Hayden Fry, and why should I care? Well, as the token Iowa graduate at Subway Domer, I'm here to answer these questions that you never asked.

This week, I paid no mind to the Grammy's. Whatevs- I had shit to do. I actually kept it to the 5 Tweet limit, so high-five to myself for that accomplishment.

Brian Kelly announced the staff changes at a press conference on Friday. The coaching staff is as follows:

  • Bob Diaco - Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers
  • Kerry Cooks - Co-Defensive Coordinator/Cornerbacks
  • Chuck Martin - Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
  • Tony Alford - Running Backs and Slot Wide Receivers/Recruiting Coordinator
  • Scott Booker - Tight Ends/Special Teams Coordinator
  • Mike Denbrock - Outside Wide Receivers/Passing Game Coordinator
  • Bob Elliott - Safeties
  • Mike Elston - Defensive Line
  • Harry Hiestand - Offensive Line/Running Game Coordinator

Also, Keith Arnold of Inside The Irish is reporting that Buffalo assistant coach, Ernest Jones, will be joining the Notre Dame staff somewhere in the football office.

Here is the video from today's presser:

That's actually quite a shakeup. Besides the new names, Kelly has moved some of the duties around. He [Kelly] is looking for more consistency with his staff, and you have to wonder if some of the visible frustration from last year had to do with the way the coaches were communicating. Hopefully, Kelly has mixed the ingredients to perfection as the 2012 season will desperately be in need of direction for some young players by the staff.

A few weeks back Blog Davie and I were sitting around still wallowing in the horribleness of the @ChampSportsBowl and wondering if we could ever again find meaning in life. It was a bleak time. Recruits and assistant coaches were dropping like flies. The program seemed adrift.

Then, just when we were most filled with anger and despair, a DM on Twitter arrived.  It was Subway Domer with the message we needed to hear: "Give in to your hate. Join SubwayDomer.com." Blog and I were intrigued. SubwayDomer has been a terrific Notre Dame blog for five years which in internet years practically makes this place an institution. We, OTOH, had only been doing this blogging thing for a little over five months and we were just getting comfortable in our little corner of the internet at GameDay40.com.  What would we do?

In the end Subway's offer was just too good to resist. Blog and I write because we enjoy being a part of the #NDFB conversation and we're hopeful to make a modest contribution to this site. We'll keep Gameday40.com going as an outlet for occasional non-#NDFB writing, but the great bulk of our posting will shift over here. So as of today we're hopping onboard the Subway. Next stop, an undefeated season and MNC for ND! (Cue Subway Domer with a righteous "Fuck Yeah!")

PS: As much as Subway Domer likes to style himself as a blogging Palpatine, the original Emperor is George Lucas. Tonight, join me in striking a blow against the Lucas Empire by refusing to see The Phantom Menace in 3D. Stay home instead and pop in your copy of Episode IV, the non-special edition where Han shoots first. Your kids will thank you when they are old enough.

subway domer arms race
Subway Domer has always strived to continually improve itself. Whether that be adding new features, or working on joint ventures with other Irish bloggers and writers- this blog wants to be the best that is possibly can be (sorry y'all... we do try).

It  is in that spirit, that Subway Domer heats up this Arms Race and pisses all over the proliferation treaty with Her Loyal Sons. Please welcome TWO new writers to the Subway Domer Empire:

  • Steve in Iowa
  • Blog Davie

You may be familiar with their work at Gameday 40, and their contributions to the Irish Blogger Gathering. They have proven themselves to be excellent bloggers, and your Emperor is excited as all hell to have landed their talents. Steve in Iowa and Blog Davie will be excellent additions to the staff that already includes The Brawling Hibernian, KGG, The Subway Domer, and Philly Kelly (the official, unofficial Graphic Designer- officially).

So please take a quick moment and welcome our newest Brigadier Generals. I SAID WELCOME THEM GOD DAMMIT!

The B1G is sick and tired of the SEC, and now they are creating the mothership of plans to help take down America's single greatest threat- NO MATTER THE COST

No doubt, that this plan would basically take the top 4 teams in the BCS rankings and could only include one team per conference. For example this year would have looked like:

  1. LSU (1)
  2. Oklahoma St. (3)
  3. Stanford (4)
  4. Boise State (7)

Which, if you think about it, would be slightly more ridiculous than last year:

  1. Auburn (1)
  2. Oregon (2)
  3. TCU (3)
  4. Wisconsin (5)

With the proposal including opening games being played on campus of the higher seed, The B1G would have watched Wisconsin get ANHILILATED at Auburn last year- and then anyone other than a B1G team this year.

In all honesty, I kind of like the idea, but the regular season should be cut to 11 games instead of the 12 games now played. That would ensure that the max level of games played by one team would still be 14.

If this proposal would have been in pace the past two years, Auburn would still likely be the 2010 Champs, but Alabama would have been shutout of consideration. A nice, "fuck you," courtesy of Jim Delany.
